GUIDE · ATTRACTING CLIENTS

How do I get more clients for my dog grooming business?

Published 15 Oct 2026

To attract more grooming clients, make it easy for suitable local owners to find you, understand your service and take the next step. Social media can help, but a reliable marketing plan also includes your website, local search, relationships and recommendations.

Before adding another activity, check where the gap is. Are too few people finding you, are enquiries failing to become bookings, or are clients failing to return?

Decide who you want to attract

Think about the dogs you can safely accommodate, the service you enjoy providing and the area clients can reasonably travel from. Describe genuine strengths such as your appointment format, experience or facilities.

“Friendly, professional grooming” gives an owner little to compare. Explaining how an appointment works and which dogs it suits helps them decide whether to enquire. Only make claims about facilities, qualifications and outcomes that you can support.

Make your local information useful

If eligible, set up and verify a Google Business Profile. Keep your opening hours, services, contact information and location or service area accurate. Add current photos that help owners recognise the business and understand the setup.

Google's guidance on improving local visibility explains the importance of complete information, reviews and relevance to a search. These actions help people assess your business; they do not guarantee a particular position in search results.

Ask clients for an honest review after a positive experience and reply thoughtfully. A steady habit is easier to maintain than remembering reviews only when the diary becomes quiet.

Give your website a clear job

Your website should explain where you work, which services you offer, who provides them and how an owner can enquire. Show real photographs and answer the practical questions that can delay a decision, such as parking, drop off arrangements and the process for a first visit.

If you quote individually, make the enquiry route obvious and explain what information you need to give a suitable quote. Test it on your phone. A visitor should be able to contact you without searching through several pages.

Before promoting available appointments, check that your grooming prices support the business. Filling the diary at an unsustainable price creates another problem to solve later.

Use several ways to build familiarity

Share helpful answers to questions clients actually ask, alongside examples of your work. Explain coat care, preparing for an appointment or what happens during a puppy introduction. Get appropriate permission before using identifiable client content.

Build relationships with complementary local pet businesses and discuss opportunities to recommend each other where there is a good fit. Attend relevant local events when practical. Keep your details consistent across printed materials, your website and social profiles.

People may need several encounters before they feel ready to book. Treat that as a reason to be consistently helpful, rather than a rule that everyone must see a fixed number of posts.

Turn enquiries into a clear next step

Reply within a timeframe you can maintain. Answer the person's question, explain whether the service suits their dog and offer a specific next action. Avoid making an interested owner work out how to book from a vague reply.

Track where enquiries came from, how many became appointments and whether those clients returned. You may discover that one modest local partnership brings more suitable clients than a popular post.

Support repeat bookings by explaining an appropriate grooming schedule and offering the next appointment where suitable. Send marketing follow up only where you have an appropriate basis and respect people's preferences.

For the next month, choose a manageable routine: improve one important website page, keep your local profile accurate, share useful content and strengthen one local relationship. Record the results so your next decision is based on evidence.
